About the Directorate

The Directorate of Postgraduate Studies and Scholarships consists of three administrative departments. Each department is responsible for a variety of tasks, including daily routine work and seasonal activities that are typically linked to announcements issued by the directorate through the Ministry’s official channels at specific times of the year. These announcement dates may change depending on the availability of the required conditions and readiness. The departments are as follows:

1. Postgraduate Studies Department

Responsible for students sponsored by the government for postgraduate programs, as well as those sponsored by their respective employers.

2. Scholarships Department

Responsible for managing scholarships offered to the Sultanate at various academic levels, in addition to scholarships offered by the Sultanate to friendly and brotherly countries.

3. Self-Funded Students Department

Responsible for overseeing students who pursue their studies at their own expense, both inside and outside the Sultanate.

National Postgraduate Scholarship Program

In accordance with the Royal directives approving the continuation of the National Postgraduate Scholarship Program during the Tenth Five-Year Plan, the program will be implemented in two phases.

Phase One

Includes the continuation of the academic and medical scholarship tracks, as well as the university grants track.
The Watan Track of the National Postgraduate Scholarship Program has been allocated for the academic years 2023 to 2025 to medical professionals and academic staff in public, private, and military educational institutions. The program aims to prepare highly qualified national competencies capable of contributing to a knowledge-based economy. Its objectives include:

  • Sponsoring Omani talents to pursue studies at top universities worldwide.

  • Promoting the exchange of scientific and technical expertise with various countries.

  • Transferring specialized scientific knowledge and utilizing it to serve the national economy.

  • Developing highly qualified Omani professionals in specific scientific fields.

Scholarships

1. External Scholarships via the Unified Admission Center

Applications and competition for these scholarships are handled through the Unified Admission Center and announced in the Postgraduate Student Guide.

2. External Scholarships via Donor Platforms

Applications and competition for these scholarships occur through the donor entities’ platforms. Announcements are made on the Ministry’s website and its official social media accounts.

Omani Program for Cultural and Scientific Cooperation with Friendly and Brotherly Countries

This program aims to strengthen international cooperation, develop human capacities in priority countries, and attract international students.
It offers a number of scholarships and study grants to students from friendly and brotherly countries to pursue undergraduate studies at public and private higher education institutions in the Sultanate of Oman.
